Adding & Editing Devices
Document every piece of equipment with detailed information - from network servers to plumbing fixtures.
Basic Information
- Room: Select which room this device belongs to (new devices only)
- Category: Device type (Router, TV, Server, Breaker, etc.). Determines the icon and available fields.
- Brand: Manufacturer name. Auto-suggests common brands as you type.
- Model: The specific model number.
- Serial Number: For warranty tracking and identification.
- Notes: Freeform text for any additional details.
Custom Images
Upload a photo or logo to replace the default category icon on the map. Supported formats: PNG, JPG.
Network Configuration
For IP-enabled categories (Server, Router, Switch, Smart Device, etc.), additional network fields appear:
OS / Firmware
Record the operating system (e.g., "Ubuntu 22.04") or firmware version (e.g., "v3.2.1").
IP Addresses
Add multiple IP addresses per device:
- Address: IPv4 (192.168.1.10) or IPv6
- Type: Label the interface (LAN, WAN, Management, WiFi)
- DHCP: Check for dynamic addresses, uncheck for static
MAC Addresses
Track physical hardware addresses:
- Format: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
- Type: Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.
- Useful for DHCP reservations and Wake-on-LAN
Open Ports
Document services running on the device (e.g., Port 22 for SSH, Port 80 for HTTP). This is for documentation only and doesn't affect the actual device.
Virtual Devices
For virtual machines and containers:
- Check "Is Virtual Device"
- Select the Host Device from the dropdown
Virtual devices appear with a dashed border and "Virtual" badge on the map, with a link to their host machine.
Purchase Information
Track acquisition details for warranty and investment tracking:
- Purchase Date: When the device was bought
- Price: Purchase amount
- Store: Where it was purchased (Amazon, Best Buy, etc.)
Document Attachments
Attach important files directly to devices:
Supported Files
- Images: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP, SVG
- Documents: PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, TXT, CSV
- Archives: ZIP
- Max size: 10MB per file
Common Attachments
- Receipts and invoices for warranty claims
- Product manuals and quick-start guides
- Configuration backups and settings exports
- Photos of installation or serial number labels
- Warranty certificates and service contracts

Special Categories
Internet / ISP
When selecting the "Internet" category:
- Brand becomes Provider Name (e.g., Comcast, Verizon)
- Serial Number becomes Account Info
- Network fields (OS, MAC) are hidden for cleaner entry
Electrical & Plumbing
Non-network categories (Breakers, Outlets, Faucets) hide IP/MAC fields and focus on the basics: brand, model, location, and notes.
